As a veteran myself, I have experienced firsthand the challenges that come with transitioning from military to civilian life. It is disheartening to see that in 2023, our federal government allocated nearly double the amount of aid for immigration issues as it did for supporting our veterans, with a staggering $1.4 billion directed towards immigration compared to far less substantial support for those who have served our country. This gross misprioritization speaks volumes about our current leadership's values, and it is something I aim to correct. Our veterans deserve better, and it's high time our policies reflect the immense sacrifices they have made. We owe them not just our gratitude but our unwavering support.
If elected, I commit to advocating for robust veteran support systems, particularly in healthcare. No veteran should struggle to receive the medical care they need, nor should they face bureaucratic nightmares just to access their benefits. I will push for reforms that ensure our veterans are treated with the respect and priority they deserve within our healthcare system. Additionally, I believe that veterans bring unique perspectives and leadership skills that are greatly needed in our government. I will support initiatives that encourage veterans to take on roles in governance, from local councils to national offices. It's time to bring their voices to the forefront, ensuring they have a significant impact on the policies that shape our nation.
